Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party National President is determined to call ‘Unity meet’ of all opposition parties to press for the use of paper ballot, not discredited EVMs, in by-polls to Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats.
“In a democracy, it’s very important that voters have faith in the electoral process. Faith had been eroded due to EVMs. Now, there is widespread doubt over EVMs. It’s time to revert to ballot papers. There have even been cases where there had been discrepancies between the voters’ turnout and the votes polled.”
Asia’s largest socialist party taking the Initiative for the sanctity of people’s mandate sends a strong message. The proposed meeting date will be announced soon.
A keen political observer, Vinod Chand, has diagnosed the cancerous political situation in a very subtle way.
As the nation hurtles towards 2019, some definite patterns are emerging;
Convicted murderers are invited to installation ceremonies of elected chief ministers.
One minister in the central cabinet openly talks about changing constitution to align it with Manu Smriti (time everyone got hold of a copy and read it).
What was the hidden agenda of RSS is now becoming the open agenda of BJP.
Gujarat is won based on appeals of fear of Islam and Pakistan and the prospect of a Muslim CM.
Government fails on almost all schemes, jobs not being generated, development model failed. farmers getting badly shafted. Rich poor gap increasing. Economy in doldrums, bad loans rise, rich siphon off money to foreign shores avoid taxes and manipulate policy to become richer by the day. Political funding becomes more opaque than ever before, RTI, Lokpal derailed, so are other social schemes that try to lift the poor (although laced with corruption).
My prediction is that this government will move towards rapid polarization of the Hindu vote bank and push the elections to end of 2018, a full five months before the actual date.
They will try to learn from the mistake of not holding Himachal and Gujarat polls together and will try to sell fear of Islam to most of the Hindus, who will, most likely, end up buying the fear as Gujarat did and end up electing the same BJP.
The move may also coincide with holding simultaneous assembly elections to force saffron government in all states. Every trick in the book will be used to win elections to gain a semblance of authority.
The top leadership remains silent on all the uttering of fellow ministers and ideologues.
Change is on the card. A once great nation will be turned into a Hindu rashtra where the 3% upper caste will once again bring the caste system back into focus and try to achieve their past glory.
My fear is that not much time is left for the liberals to fight back.
Those sworn to protect the constitution are going to rip it apart. As we sleep, the termites are at work at a furious pace.
And those sworn to fight enemies both outside and within will remain mute spectators.
Forget acche din, we are heading for bahut hi burre din.
Meanwhile when the world was celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, Youth icon charismatic socialist leader and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav bats off the Indian Grameen Cricket League at the state-of-the-art international stadium in Saifai, nursery of Indian Socialism and a model national village.
Games give you a chance to excel, and if you’re playing in good company you don’t even mind if you lose because you had the enjoyment of the company during the course of the game.
Socialist star is an epitome of true sportsmanship. He had been a magnificent field player of hockey, football and cricket in the prime of his adolescence. Even when he is in early Forties, he wields the willow like a centurion, dribble the ball like a magician and sticks the play like a disciplinarian.
He is a leader. He Knows that you need your opponent because without him or her, there is no game. Fair game he plays. No Foul.
Acknowledging that your opponent holds the same deep-rooted aspirations and expectations as you.
Knowing that, win or lose, you will walk off the course with pride.
Always taking the high road. He is the Action Man.
And always, always, always being a true sport.
On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh’s politics is spinning and swinging like a pendulum. Yogi Adityanath, current Chief Minister and Successor of Akhilesh this day has surprised political purists and expectant public by taking a terrible decision of withdrawing his own case.
